Chinese Medicine

Woman receiving neck massage

Chinese Medicine combines acupuncture, bodywork, and herbal medicine to create an integrative and holistic approach to your health and wellness. Treatments are tailored to each individual based on their lifestyle, life experience, and genetic makeup. The process of customizing and strategizing treatments to address a person’s unique condition or illness is at the heart of Chinese medicine.

During a Chinese medicine treatment, first-time patients will have an in-depth consultation exploring health history and current health goals before receiving acupuncture and bodywork. For existing patients, treatments begin with a review of symptom changes from your previous visit. How your body shifts after each session is diagnostic information that informs our treatment strategies. To further evaluate your current state of health, I will also assess your tongue and pulse. If you are taking herbs, I may modify your formula based on the discussed symptom changes.

After our discussion, we transition into physical medicine with a treatment plan that is uniquely tailored to you. In Chinese medicine treatments, acupuncture is often accompanied by other forms of bodywork, such as tui you (literally ‘push oil’ massage, using long, gliding strokes to circulate blood flow through the sinews and soften muscles), daoist zangfu acupressure (abdominal massage to optimize digestion and pelvic function), cupping (cups placed on the skin to create suction and tissue decompression), moxibustion (applying warmth to specific areas of the body), traction (gently creating space in the joint cavities and lengthening muscle fibers), and patting (rhythmical percussion to create positive physical and chemical change in the body). Any variation of these techniques may be used in your Chinese medicine treatment.
